SERVICE RECORD

 

Brett Merrick was a late starter to graduated from Starfleet Academy. At the age of 34 he graduated on stardate 201405:13 with a degree after studying in molecular Science.

Brett Merrick comes from a long and prestegious military background, but he chose to enslist in Starfleet instead. His first assignment was due to be the USS TITAN, under Capt Riker but seen as though this would be his first assignment away he opted for the USS ODYSSEY instead due to not being confortable heading out to the BETA quadrant on his first mission. Whilst at Starfleet Academy he was alway the "play it safe" guy the person who would stay up all night ensuring that his assignments were always finished on time. During any free time you could always find him in the bar with Lattee quietly studying or in the Holodeck taking part in one of the numerous past earth conflicts. Upon arrival on the USS ODYSSEY he has assumed the role of damage control officer. During a Gorn/Borg invasion on the USS Odyssey and with the absence of the Command Staff, Ensign Merrick assumed command of the Odyssey and repelled the attack, protected the crew and took full control of the situation, these actions were by far above and beyond the Rank of Ensign and earned Ensign Merrick a COs Commendation and with the full backing of Starfleet Command it also earnt Mr Merrick the Starfleet Silver Star and subsequently a promotion to Lt (JG). As a Lt (JG)he assumed the role of Damage control officer and managed a crew of repair teams that were vital to the running of the USS Odyssey and subsequently managed to save the crew and the ship from more than one disaster. Lt (JG) Merrick was asked by the Captain of the USS Odyssey to conduct training for the crew. He programmed a Holodeck Scenario that was available to anybody that wanted to hone their Starfleet skills whilst being on board. He was subsequently promoted to full Lt shortly after. Lt Merrick continued to train Starfleet personnel and encouraged crew personnel to be more social and due to this Admiral Malcolm Edwards gave him a field promotion to Lt Cmdr and 2XO on Stardate 2014. Due to his exceptional service to the USS Odyssey and crew training Captain Kevin Peters awarded Lt.cmdr Merrick field promotion to Commander and position of First Officer.

 

Commander Merrick was instrumental in the discovery of the Isolinier chip incident and successfully used his tactical skill and advanced starship knowledge to assertain the threat to the Federation and stop an all out war at the strategic postion of DS9 by blocking and mining the Worm Hole. Commander Merricks actions have subsequently caused him to recieve awards for his dedication and service. During a disquised mirror universe attack Commander Merrick recieved an field promotion to acting Captain, whilst the current CO debriefs Starfleet on the USS Odysseys situation.

Commander Merrick was promoted to Captain in the light of Captain Peters departure and he assumed command of the USS Odyssey. Not long after his promotion he was responsible for the rescue of Cmdr Tim Lyth from the Mirror universe. Which unfortunely resulted in the loss of the USS Odyssey. Captain Merrick managed to save majority of the crew but the ship was lost. The survivors were recovered and brought back to DS9 where a court martial was held. Captain Merrick was aquitted and was given the USS Roslin as a replacment for the USS Odyssey. Starfleet was contacted by Admiral Servek and she was given permission to rename the USS Roslin to the USS Odyssey B.

Whilst the USS Rolsin was in refit at Earth Space dock being converted and renamed, Captain Merrick was summond to Jupiter station to sit his Captains exams. Which he passed with flying colours however the Admiralty that sat on the board deemed him to Young to command, and revoked his promotion due to not enough time served.

This has only fueled the fires of Cmdr Merricks determination to impress his peers and he intend to get his head back into the command books and start again. Starting from page 12 Diplomacy and first contact situations.

During the events of 201507.01 - 201507.28 Cmdr Merrick was instrimental in trying to locate corrupt starfleet personnel and is currently only one of a handful of starfleet personnel to successfully visit Romulus and live to tell the tale. Upon his return whilst stationed at Starbase Hercules he was instrimental in ensuring that the USS Odyssey survived a Borg attack that saw not only the station destroyed but numerous vessels with it. It was his quick thinking that resulted in the USS Oydssey fleeing the immediate area to repair in a nebula that resulted in the survival of the ship.

After the Borg had left the area, Cmdr Merrick issued the order to repair at the nearest starbase, stabase Phoenix (91) it was here that Captain Peters was promoted and recalled to Section 31, he was promoted to Fleet Captain and subsequently Cmdr Merrick was promoted to Captain of the USS Odyssey as at Stardate 201507.24
